January 24th 2009 - A New Year
It's a new year and a lot is on my plate, although not much has really changed from my last post, almost half a year ago. I really can't believe that much time has passed. As always, time passes at a ridiculous speed. In just a couple days, I will be 28 years old. Wow.
Although my business still isn't official, I have been getting many more official jobs. Between clothing lines, official Ohio license plates, and book illustrations, along with some other projects, my side business has been great and I'm learning at a really amazing rate. Just a few weeks ago I was asking people so many Q's, and now I am supplying people with answers. School is definitely the best thing, but sometimes experience does marvels. I wish I had started sooner, but it's ok. No matter what things are always good. Life is so content right now. I'll always want more, but damn I'm happy.
My ticket back to Japan expires soon. I want to go back for sooooo many reasons, but I don't see it as a prudent choice right now. I will spend this week thinking of ways to make it work, but if not, I'll figure something out within the next year for sure, at least to visit.
I haven't had much time to study anything besides graphic design recently, but still have made my way through a couple great books. I need to make more time to study more. It'll be a key to my future and well-being. I'll post about some findings later. Really cool stuff.
I've had a billion thoughts in the past few months, too many to focus on. So, to start the new year I think I'll keep it extremely simple
Thought of the day:
Eye of the Beholder
Too many times we try to judge people the way we see them and not how they see themselves. Through recent high depth studies of body language I'm seeing more and more the mistakes we make, that get masked by words. Even through speach, though, people reveal so many important things that we miss, because we are simply thinking too much, or making assumptions based off of our OWN thought process.
Sometimes the best presents are the simplest. Sometimes the best thing to do for people is simply what they ask. We are always so worried about surprising people and doing things that we want to do/see, that we fail to see how selfish and foolish that is. Unfortunitely, that is really hard to do. You may think something will be the perfect idea, but is it YOUR idea, or THEIR idea? Try to make THEIR idea YOURS, or visa-versa. Listen to people, and take some time to step out of your world and into theirs. If you're brave enough to see the world from their eyes, you'll be shocked at how well you can understand them.
